The Company

Our client is an independent power producer that is dedicated to the energy transition. The company acquires, develops, & operates energy facilities that provide energy resiliency & enhance grid decarbonization initiatives. Our client utilizes existing transmission infrastructure to advance the use of renewable energy technologies.

Role Overview

Our client seeks Real Estate Counsel to support their development team with acquiring leases & other property rights for its large pipeline of solar & energy storage projects. The Real Estate Counsel will also provide zoning & permitting process support in relation to the company’s renewable energy development projects. The role will also involve occasionally providing due diligence support for potential future acquisitions. The candidate must have renewable energy project experience & be comfortable regularly interacting with management.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Negotiate, assess, & create land rights agreements
  • Act as lead in-house counsel to the company’s development team
  • Provide support on permitting & zoning matters, including state & local laws related to solar project development
  • Provide guidance related to development & land acquisition
  • Occasionally negotiate & assess commercial agreements such as nondisclosure agreements & supply agreements
  • Support with mergers & acquisitions due diligence

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctorate; Illinois license preferred
  • Experience within clean energy, infrastructure, data centers, or telecom is required
  • Experience with state & local development laws & ordinances is preferred
  • Experience practicing law, including at a private law firm
  • Experience in real estate required
  • Experience with commercial contracting is preferred
