Role Overview

The Director of Subscriber Acquisition will oversee off-take strategy and subscription performance across a national portfolio of community solar, commercial and industrial assets. This role involves managing third-party vendors, optimizing revenue and customer retention, and ensuring compliance with key regulatory and financial standards. The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented, entrepreneurial clean energy professional with strong communication skills and a track record of driving results across cross-functional teams.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manage the full customer journey for solar program participants, ensuring projects remain fully subscribed at all times
  • Design and roll out initiatives to boost customer loyalty and long-term revenue performance
  • Monitor cancellation rates, payment collections, and utility credit allocations in coordination with external service providers to maintain financial accuracy and performance
  • Serve as the primary business contact for commercial solar agreements, addressing billing concerns, ownership transitions, contract updates, and other transactional matters
  • Lead negotiations and ongoing oversight of customer-facing vendor contracts, from initial dealmaking to long-term execution
  • Set performance expectations, regularly evaluate third-party results, and take corrective action to ensure alignment with both regulatory standards and company goals
  • Oversee compensation tracking and milestone reviews for vendor partners while ensuring alignment across internal teams including finance and asset operations
  • Work collaboratively with partners to adapt strategies to evolving market conditions and pursue growth opportunities
  • Partner with internal stakeholders to align customer engagement with broader organizational targets, with a focus on reducing turnover, improving collections, and mitigating policy-driven risk
  • Coordinate across departments to support smooth project handoffs, maintain accurate reporting, and reconcile discrepancies between performance data and utility crediting
  • Contribute to investor readiness by providing key subscription updates and customer performance metrics
  • Supply market and project intelligence to support underwriting, valuation, and competitive positioning efforts across the sales and finance teams
  • Shape acquisition strategies across both mature and emerging markets to drive returns and meet project goals
  • Monitor and interpret changes in solar policy and market activity to inform tactical planning and long-term positioning
  • Represent the company at industry events to strengthen partnerships, elevate the company’s profile, and generate new growth opportunities

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline such as sustainability, economics, marketing, or a similar field; an MBA or other graduate-level credential is a plus
  • Extensive, hands-on experience in the clean energy sector—particularly in sales, business development, strategic partnerships, or distributed generation, with a strong emphasis on multi-subscriber solar initiatives
  • Demonstrated success in securing and finalizing agreements related to customer acquisition and portfolio management in the community solar arena
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and translate it into strategic, actionable outcomes
  • Skilled in managing timelines and resources across several concurrent initiatives
  • Deep commitment to advancing environmental goals and contributing to ESG initiatives
  • Exceptional precision and a strong aptitude for maintaining organization in fast-paced environments
  • Capable of juggling multiple responsibilities and shifting priorities as needed
  • Consistently dependable with a track record of following through
  • Comfortable using Microsoft Office tools, especially Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
