Senior Accountant, Asset Management

Our client is a U.S.-based renewable energy investment firm focused on solar and storage. With a large-scale portfolio spanning operational and early-stage assets, they partner with developers to modernize infrastructure and accelerate the clean energy transition.

Role Overview

The Senior Accountant will play a key role within the financial operations team, contributing to the oversight of accounting functions tied to distributed energy assets. This position supports a wide range of responsibilities, including general ledger management, financial reporting, annual audit preparation, and budget planning for a portfolio of decentralized clean energy projects managed by the organization.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Oversee financial operations for a portfolio of distributed solar and battery storage assets
  • Ensure the integrity of financial data in compliance with U.S. accounting standards
  • Prepare quarterly financial statements and analyze budget-to-actual performance
  • Partner with asset management teams to assess project performance and identify factors contributing to budget discrepancies
  • Manage cash flow and liquidity planning for assigned clean energy portfolios
  • Ensure all financing structures—including debt and tax equity—are monitored for compliance and reporting accuracy
  • Lead end-to-end accounts payable and receivable workflows
  • Process and apply client payments accurately to appropriate accounts
  • Monitor outstanding balances and work with internal teams to resolve discrepancies
  • Generate and distribute billing statements and invoices to stakeholders in a timely manner
  • Allocate expenses across relevant accounts and departments based on invoice and budget documentation
  • Process vendor payments and verify tax identification information
  • Resolve any purchase order or invoice conflicts in alignment with internal controls
  • Maintain the general ledger and support audit preparation
  • Supervise and train junior accounting staff as needed
  • Support the onboarding of new energy assets into the portfolio in accordance with internal finance procedures
  • Contribute to ongoing improvements in processes and systems
  • Take on additional duties and special projects as required
  • Occasional travel may be expected depending on portfolio needs

Qualifications

  • Experience in public accounting, with direct involvement in audit-related work
  • Skilled in identifying challenges, evaluating options, and making informed decisions
  • Bonus experience (not required):
    • Accounting background in the renewable energy industry
    • Ability to interpret financial data and assess how operations affect investment outcomes
  • Track record of contributing effectively to cross-functional teams
  • Strong skills in analysis, organization, and strategic thinking
  • Self-starter mindset with the drive to take projects from idea to execution
  • Understanding of workflows and processes within the clean energy sector
  • Excellent communication skills—both written and verbal—with internal and external stakeholders
  • Adept at building relationships and navigating fast-paced, evolving work environments
