VP, Direct-to-Customer Origination

Our client was established over a decade ago and is backed by a global sustainability investor. They are a national company that designs, develops, finances and constructs decentralized renewable energy systems for commercial and industrial companies.

Role Overview

The Vice President will lead efforts centered on direct customer acquisition. This individual will partner closely with the marketing and business development teams to identify, evaluate, and close new opportunities with prospective clients. Key responsibilities include developing and delivering tailored energy solutions, structuring and finalizing power purchase and offtake agreements, and cultivating long-term client partnerships. The VP will collaborate cross-functionally with fellow originators and internal stakeholders at our client, including teams across legal, finance, project development, operations, and asset management, to drive successful outcomes.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Support the company’s business development initiatives to secure 85+ MW annually in executed power purchase agreements for distributed, on-site decarbonization projects (minimum 500 kW per project)
  • Act as a hands-on leader and mentor to the Origination team based in New York City
  • Identify and advance opportunities nationwide, initially targeting large energy users seeking meaningful cost reduction and carbon mitigation—such as companies in industrial manufacturing, midstream infrastructure, oil and gas, and chemical sectors
  • Build and cultivate strategic alliances, including partnerships with energy consultants and advisors who can provide access to qualified prospects and project pipelines
  • Engage commercial and industrial customers to assess their sustainability and energy goals, structuring customized renewable energy transactions aligned with their operational and financial objectives
  • Lead negotiations for power purchase agreements, memoranda of understanding, site control agreements, and other revenue contracts related to distributed generation assets, primarily behind-the-meter decarbonization projects
  • Structure and advance projects that satisfy the underwriting and return thresholds required by our client’s capital partners
  • Coordinate closely with cross-functional teams—including marketing, legal, finance, development, and operations—to ensure efficient execution across lead intake, proposal development, presentations, term sheets, contract negotiation, and closing
  • Oversee the preparation and submission of comprehensive, competitive responses to client RFPs
  • Consistently achieve and surpass revenue and capacity targets by leveraging CRM systems (including Salesforce) and other tools to drive disciplined pipeline management and operational efficiency
  • Collaborate with executive leadership to accelerate company growth while fostering a collaborative and inclusive workplace culture
  • Provide input on market selection, channel strategy, pricing frameworks, and transaction structures
  • Monitor regulatory developments and evolving market dynamics to uncover new business prospects
  • Stay informed on clean energy industry advancements, policy changes, and competitive positioning
  • Participate actively in internal meetings, strategy sessions, and company communications
  • Travel as needed to meet clients, partners, and advance strategic initiatives
  • Carry out additional responsibilities as required to support organizational objectives

Qualifications

  • Minimum of seven years’ experience driving revenue growth or strategic partnerships within the clean energy or renewables industry
  • Proven ability to deliver compelling presentations to customers, leadership teams, and executive stakeholders
  • Track record of structuring and closing sophisticated commercial contracts, including long-term energy supply or offtake agreements
  • Solid knowledge of U.S. electricity markets and regulatory frameworks is strongly preferred
  • Experience leading, mentoring, and overseeing high-performing teams
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication capabilities, with the ability to convey complex concepts clearly and persuasively
  • Strong quantitative aptitude, including experience evaluating project economics and building financial models related to renewable energy assets and incentive structures
  • Bachelor’s degree required
