Role Overview
Our client is looking to hire a Senior Manager/Director, Data Centers to spearhead data center development projects with a focus on energy infrastructure, interconnection, market dynamics, and real estate. This leadership role requires extensive experience and a proven ability to manage multifaceted initiatives, coordinate with internal departments and external partners, and move complex projects from concept to execution. The position will work closely with teams across development, energy markets, legal, finance, and asset management.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Oversee the full lifecycle of data center projects—from initial location vetting through design coordination, approvals, and utility alignment
- Create and manage execution plans, timelines, and budgets while maintaining progress against financial and delivery goals
- Interface with external vendors including engineers, design firms, and builders to confirm all technical and operational criteria are satisfied
- Investigate and assess new land opportunities by conducting site walks, evaluating utility access and infrastructure, and identifying development barriers
- Partner with internal stakeholders to vet new locations based on available power, connectivity, environmental factors, permitting risk, and overall alignment with company assets
- Guide infrastructure planning to align data center layouts with the company’s generation footprint
- Collaborate with design experts to produce facility layouts that meet internal standards and energy integration needs
- Direct the approvals process by working with municipalities, permitting bodies, and grid operators to secure the required entitlements
- Ensure adherence to applicable regulatory requirements across environmental, structural, and safety frameworks
- Lead discussions with power suppliers to lock in competitive energy contracts that meet operational needs and long-term sustainability goals
- Partner with the energy team to develop relationships that support streamlined interconnection and faster deployment timelines
- Coordinate with utilities and consultants to secure capacity, manage infrastructure upgrades, and ensure grid compatibility with project specifications
Qualifications
- Extensive experience leading projects in the energy, utilities, or infrastructure space, with demonstrated knowledge of grid connections, power markets, and substation systems
- Proven ability to deliver large-scale, multifaceted initiatives on time and within scope, coordinating efforts across diverse internal and external groups
- Deep understanding of grid integration procedures, power sector trends, and transmission system planning, with the ability to apply this expertise to decision-making and execution
- Strong communicator with the ability to convey complex information clearly in both written and verbal formats across a range of audiences
- A degree in engineering, energy, business, or a related discipline is a plus; equivalent hands-on experience will also be considered
- Must be available to work in office at least three days per week
- Willingness to travel up to about one-third of the time based on project needs
- Candidates must have legal authorization to work in the U.S. without company sponsorship
