Origination Associate

The Company

Our client was established over a decade ago by a major global private equity manager that is heavily invested in energy. They are a national company that designs, develops, finances and constructs decentralized renewable energy systems for commercial and industrial companies. Fast forward to today, our client is owned by an international investor in sustainability initiatives, which has enabled the company to have reliable access to funding from key investors.

Role Overview

This role involves identifying and engaging prospective customers, conducting market research, developing financial models and client proposals, and preparing marketing materials. The position also supports commercial negotiations, evaluates new technologies and market trends, and maintains communication with internal teams and external partners. Additional responsibilities include generating new business leads, representing our client at industry events, and managing negotiations of key agreements and due diligence for projects and portfolios.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Contribute to sourcing new opportunities and building partnerships
  • Perform industry research and policy reviews to inform business development strategies
  • Identify and engage prospective customers through targeted outreach
  • Develop presentation decks and pitch collateral for client engagement
  • Analyze utility rate structures and energy pricing data
  • Build and refine financial models for project evaluation
  • Prepare business case analyses for distributed renewable energy and community solar initiatives
  • Collaborate with engineering, construction, asset management, and finance teams to validate inputs and assumptions
  • Draft responses to Requests for Proposals
  • Lead or assist with due diligence on potential acquisitions
  • Provide support in negotiating commercial agreements, including power purchase arrangements
  • Organize team meetings, prepare agendas, and capture notes and action items
  • Take part in client discussions, site visits, conferences, and related activities
  • Represent the company and its offerings with professionalism in the marketplace
  • Travel occasionally for client meetings, bid sessions, site visits, and industry events

Qualifications

  • Genuine interest and motivation to build a career in commercial and industrial clean energy
  • Bachelor’s degree or comparable professional experience
  • Experience in renewable energy sales, partnerships, or business development
  • Preference for candidates available to work in a hybrid format with several in-office days per week
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office programs, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Strong verbal and written communication abilities
  • Exceptional analytical thinking and organizational capabilities
  • Adept at prioritizing tasks, managing multiple projects simultaneously, and keeping stakeholders informed of progress and timelines
  • Capable of identifying issues, conducting independent research to determine root causes, and proposing effective solutions
  • Highly detail-oriented, goal-driven, and comfortable working across teams in a dynamic, fast-moving environment with occasional extended hours
  • Brings a professional, accountable, respectful, and collaborative mindset to the workplace
