Role Overview

Our client is looking for a Chief Financial Officer to design and execute the financial strategy of a fast-growing clean energy company. This role will oversee all aspects of capital planning, fundraising, and financial operations, ensuring the organization has the resources and systems to scale effectively. The CFO will work closely with executive leadership, the board, and investors while building a finance function that balances operational discipline with growth.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develop and lead long-term financial strategy, including capital planning and fundraising
  • Oversee financial operations, reporting, tax compliance, and regulatory obligations
  • Build and maintain financial models, forecasts, valuations, and scenario plans
  • Partner with the CEO and board to prepare investor materials, manage relationships, and secure funding
  • Implement scalable systems, cost controls, and cash management practices to support manufacturing and growth initiatives
  • Evaluate capital expenditures and vendor contracts in collaboration with operations and engineering teams
  • Anticipate financial risks and design strategies to preserve flexibility and extend runway
  • Guide and grow the finance team, shaping the function as a core part of the organization’s leadership

Qualifications

  • Extensive senior finance leadership, ideally in capital-intensive sectors such as energy, manufacturing, or advanced technology
  • Proven track record raising capital from diverse sources including venture, strategic, and non-dilutive funding
  • Experience structuring financing for complex or large-scale projects and facilities
  • Strong expertise in financial planning, modeling, forecasting, and reporting systems
  • Hands-on leader with the ability to thrive in dynamic, fast-changing environments
  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills, including board and investor engagement
  • Mission-driven mindset with deep motivation to advance clean energy solutions
  • Ability to work remote – strong preference for West Coast-based candidates
  • Bonus: prior experience with first-of-a-kind manufacturing builds, renewable energy finance, or technical fluency to collaborate with engineering teams
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States and not require employer sponsorship now or in the future
