Role Overview
Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Energy Transactions Attorney to support a growing renewable energy practice focused exclusively on energy transactions and project development. This role advises developers, lenders, investors, and other market participants across utility-scale and distributed generation projects, including community solar, wind, battery storage, and transmission. The ideal candidate has at least six years of experience handling sophisticated renewable energy transactions and is looking for a high level of responsibility within a collaborative, entrepreneurial environment.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Represent developers, lenders, investors, and other market participants in renewable energy transactions
- Advise clients on the financing and development of utility-scale and distributed generation projects
- Negotiate and draft site control agreements, including lease options, purchase options, easements, and accommodation agreements
- Handle title and survey review, real estate diligence, legal descriptions, and title curative matters
- Advise on mineral ownership, subsurface matters, and waivers
- Support permitting, construction financing, tax equity closings, and MIPA transactions
- Manage a variety of sophisticated renewable energy transactions from inception through closing
- Build and maintain long-standing client relationships
- Collaborate with attorneys across the Energy Law Group to achieve practice group goals
- Contribute to business development initiatives and help grow the firm’s renewable energy practice
Qualifications
- J.D. from an accredited law school and active bar membership in good standing
- Preference for Texas or Illinois bar admission
- At least 6 years of handling sophisticated renewable energy transactions
- Proven ability to represent developers, lenders, investors, and other market participants on renewable energy projects
- Strong background in renewable energy project development, financing, and transactions
- Knowledge of site control agreements, including lease options, purchase options, easements, and accommodation agreements
- Familiarity with mineral ownership, subsurface matters, and waivers
- Proficiency in title and survey review, real estate diligence, legal descriptions, and title curative work
- Background in construction financing, tax equity closings, and MIPA transactions
- Excellent interpersonal, analytical, drafting, and writing skills Strong academic credentials
