Senior Director of Development – CAISO

The Role

Our client is looking for a Senior Director of Development to lead large-scale renewable projects in the U.S. The right person for this position will be able to manage energy storage and develop projects from origination to commissioning by collaborating with multiple teams within the company such as engineering, procurement and capital markets.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Oversee the development of large-scale renewable energy projects
  • Manage projects from the initial acquisition phase until the final phases
  • Manage all aspects related to portfolio acquisition including identifying risks and categorizing priorities
  • Coordinate and work with relevant partners to advance the development pipeline
  • Manage all project pro-forma models
  • Monitor and support critical project agreements such as PPAs and IAs
  • Lead all projects through the financing phase with due diligence
  • Work with internal and external teams to ensure all project sites and designs as well as technology options are handled properly
  • Focus on identifying new markets across the U.S.
  • Provide encouragement and leadership across relevant teams
  • Manage and develop budgets for relevant projects as well as schedules
  • Lead budget considerations for projects, i.e. forecast management, budget analysis, etc.
  • Administer service agreements as needed with partners
  • Manage relationships with all partners, such as surveyors, and technical consultants

Qualifications & Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree in a related field is required
  • Experience with development project management (CAISO)
  • Prior experience in the renewable energy industry
  • Project real estate rights experience
  • Experience with land contracting and title resolutions
  • A solid understanding of environmental regulations and government rules related to project development across multiple markets
  • Understanding of project grid interconnection elements, studies and agreement processes
  • Experience with scheduling and budgeting projects
  • Past success with project agreements, such as PPAs, MSAs, O&M agreements, etc.
  • Personal experience with hands on management of projects through the initial planning and final stages
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently and with a team
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience with basic Microsoft Office tools such as Word, Excel, Project and PowerPoint
  • Able to travel at least 25% of the time (domestic travel)
