Manager/ Senior Manager, Distributed Generation

Job Requirements

  • The Distributed Generation (DG) leader will lead the company’s DG team in assisting their clients procure onsite PV and/or near-site PV solutions through project identification, due diligence, project selection and contract negotiation. The company’s DG focus is on implementing rooftop, carport and ground mount PV and storage, as well as community solar and other virtual net metering projects.
  • The DG Leader will lead client teams in:
    • Conducting preliminary distributed generation feasibility assessments and strategy formulation for prospective and current clients
    • Developing and managing client Requests for Proposals (RFPs)
    • Overseeing project bid analysis including economic and risk analysis, and counterparty and development due diligence
    • Leading client to project recommendation and selection, supporting successful stakeholder and leadership engagement and approvals
    • Acting as subject matter expert (SME) on behalf of their client during contract negotiations
    • Maintaining the company’s team industry knowledge of distributed generation landscape, and aspects which could impact client solutions including key incentive structures and regulatory movement in the DG market
  • As the company’s capabilities and client interests continue to grow, it is anticipated that the candidate who fills this position will have the opportunity to be a part of developing capabilities in other onsite renewable energy (RE) solutions (e.g., renewable natural gas, other renewable technologies for heating or fuel cells and other electric generation capacity that can run on renewable

KnowledgeQualifications, and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree (engineering degree preferred)
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience with solar project development at commercial scale (multi-kW up to multi-MW), 6+ preferred, including, but not limited to, the following project types:
    • Key primary DG applications of rooftop, carport, ground mount and virtual net metering
    • Large onsite solar portfolios (e.g., many sites), including planning, scheduling, implementation
  • Knowledge and experience of full DG project development cycle, including, but not limited to:
    • DG industry design and safety standards and strong understanding of implications of design choices on project performance, cost, and schedule
    • Interconnection processes, incentive structures, regulatory frameworks and permitting requirements throughout the US for both behind-the-meter and grid connected projects
    • Ability to identify, vet and manage DG developers, contractors, and subcontractors
    • Preparing or responding to DG bid specifications (RFPs, RFQs, RFIs, etc.) including preliminary system designs and technical specifications. Direct experience with management of RFP bid processes preferred
    • Negotiating purchase and sale contracts required to implement DG projects (power purchase agreements, EPC contracts, etc.)
  • Knowledge of project costing and budgeting of DG projects
  • Knowledge of main policy supports and regulatory regimes in multiple DG markets
  • Excellent organizational skills, strong attention to detail, and ability to provide concise and accurate progress reports to clients and the company’s management
  • Experience managing multiple complex projects concurrently
  • Strong track record for working in and managing teams effectively, developing and capitalizing on team members’ strengths and value, and engaging and managing internal stakeholders at an organization to drive towards objectives
  • Entrepreneurial; willing to leverage knowledge, skills and creative problem solving to reach the best outcome for the client
  • Strong oral and written communication skills; able to communicate complex matters in a simple, concise manner
  • Experience interfacing with and managing multiple internal stakeholders within large corporations and/or institutions, and shepherding contract approvals
  • Strong interpersonal skills with individuals from varied experience levels and backgrounds
  • Strong experience in MS Office suite (Word, Powerpoint, Excel)
  • Strong experience in analysis and design applications for solar projects (e.g., PVSyst, Energy Toolbase,
    Helioscope, AutoCAD)
  • NABCEP certified a plus
  • U.S. work authorization 
  • Ability to travel nationally (averaging roughly 15% travel in non-pandemic times)
