Director of Development, Engineering

Our client is a large development firm that is focused on various energy activities, including construction, origination, and energy storage project operations. They are undertaking major projects throughout the nation that are helping to revamp the grid to make it a more equitable, reliable and efficient energy system, as well as create a more sustainable future for all.

The Role

Our client seeks a Director of Development who can manage a team of engineers as well as spearhead activities related to energy projects that need to be developed. The ideal candidate will be able to help develop engineers on their team while also managing details of project issues and concerns.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Lead team of engineers
  • Manage the development process with special attention paid to engineering, design and assessment of technical risks
  • Take charge in solving all project concerns, including site plans, layouts, interconnection, outside engineering, battery technologies, project plans, and nurturing relationships with vendors and contractors
  • Oversee the training and growth of all engineers on the development team
  • Work with the VP of Project Development to ensure growth in project pipelines
  • Collaborate with the Business Development team to work on project acquisition and facilitating quality
  • Ensure smooth transitions between project phases
  • Manage financial project models
  • Help keep track of all regulatory and legislative policy issues
  • Represent the company and its image in all actions including at trade shows and conferences
  • Oversee employee productivity
  • Ensure there is a highly inclusive culture in all team activities

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree, either BA or BS
  • Graduate degree not required, but is a plus
  • Extensive experience in renewable energy or energy storage
  • Proficient with Microsoft products as well as Salesforce
  • Highly developed written, non-verbal and verbal communication
  • Ability to lead and manage a team and be a team player
  • Personal accountability
  • Experience with financial analysis and budgeting
  • Training in project management
  • Experience with policy analysis
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Self-motivated and passionate about the environment and energy development
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong capabilities when it comes to presentations and negotiations
  • Ability to make decisions quickly and in creative manners
  • Valid driver’s license and a safe driving record required
