Director of Development – Energy Storage

Our client is a fast-growing company specializing in large-scale battery storage projects that enhance grid stability & accelerate the clean energy transition. They develop, own, & operate advanced energy storage systems with a strong emphasis on innovation & long-term sustainability.

Role Overview

Our client is seeking a Director of Development to lead the advancement of energy storage projects across the Central & Eastern U.S., overseeing the development process from early-stage planning to execution. This role will involve managing complex, large-scale initiatives that create value for stakeholders & investors. As a key contributor to regional strategy & project implementation, you will drive new site development while collaborating with the acquisitions team to evaluate & integrate development-stage opportunities.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Oversee the full lifecycle of battery storage project development, from site selection to securing approvals, collaborating with cross-functional teams to address challenges
  • Partner with teams across market analysis, engineering, acquisitions, finance, & business development to identify high-value locations for energy storage projects
  • Conduct in-depth reviews of real estate, permitting requirements, & other key development factors for potential acquisitions
  • Help shape regional market strategies & execution plans to drive project success
  • Build & maintain relationships with local partners, property owners, regulatory agencies, grid operators, & other key stakeholders
  • Oversee project budgets, timelines, & risk mitigation efforts throughout development
  • Guide & support junior team members in advancing their development expertise

Qualifications

  • Experience in energy infrastructure development, with a strong preference for battery storage expertise
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Demonstrated track record of successfully advancing energy projects within SPP, PJM, &/or MISO markets
  • Strong analytical & problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to collect, structure, & evaluate complex data to develop innovative solutions from concept to execution
  • Confidence in public speaking across various settings, including community forums, regulatory hearings, & direct engagements with external stakeholders
  • Excellent collaboration & relationship-building skills
  • Ability to engage effectively at all organizational levels
  • Proven ability to oversee project timelines, financial planning, & risk management
  • Familiarity with financial modeling for project evaluation
  • Exceptional written & verbal communication abilities
  • Experience with GIS tools is a plus
  • High level of integrity, humility, & respect for colleagues & stakeholders
  • Remote role based in the middle of the U.S.
