Chief Financial Officer

Our client is a solar energy company that specializes in financing, developing & operating commercial & industrial solar energy systems. The company designs & delivers comprehensive procurement & solar investment solutions for municipalities, businesses & institutions, enabling them to positively impact their community & achieve their sustainability goals. Our client is the leading developer, owner & operator of C&I projects in the Washington DC area & is expanding its reach into new markets.

The Role:

Our client seeks a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to join its executive team & help lead the company’s next phase of growth. The CFO will report to the CEO & will serve as a key part of the company’s strategic leadership. The CFO will be responsible for overseeing the company’s financial activities, including but not limited to: accounting & financial reporting; treasury & cash management; tax & compliance; financial planning & analysis; project & structured finance; asset management; & investor relations. The right candidate will have a demonstrated track record in financial leadership roles, will be an outstanding communicator, & able to work independently to drive successful results.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Manage key stakeholder relationships & ensure the company is meeting its financial reporting & covenant requirements to lenders & investors
  • In partnership with the CEO & the Board of Directors, develop & implement the company’s financial strategy
  • Make recommendations for design & implementation of financial plans across the business
  • Develop & implement project & corporate financing strategies to enable business growth
  • Maintain & manage relationships with financial institution to ensure the company’s place in the broader market & access to capital
  • Oversee accounting & financial reporting functions, led by the company’s Controller
  • Work with Controller to oversee cash management & develop & maintain a system for cash forecasting
  • Oversee asset operations, portfolio management & operations & maintenance functions, led by the company’s Director of Asset Management
  • Monitor, develop & maintain the company’s asset value, develop hurdle rates & establish risk limits to the company’s development activities 
  • Maintain & oversee the company’s corporate financial model
  • Oversee structured finance & project finance functions, led by the company’s Director of Project Finance
  • Work with COO to manage the presentation & flow of information at monthly operating meetings & quarterly board meetings
  • Responsible for maintenance & creation of the company’s annual budget


  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or other Business-related field
  • 8+ years of experience in business management, renewable energy development or other executive leadership roles
  • Solid understanding of U.S. GAAP & tax considerations for solar operations
  • Strong knowledge of solar technology & solar project financing
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite of products
  • Strong financial analysis skills
  • Solid business & personnel management skills
  • Robust organizational & stress management skills
  • Strong verbal & written communication skills
  • Capability of training & managing staff
  • Ability to work independently and full-time
  • Vaccinated & boosted for COVID-19
  • Must be able to legally work in the U.S.
  • 5+ years of executive leadership experience preferred
  • 5+ years of accounting experience in solar, construction or related industry preferred
  • Working knowledge of renewable energy-related federal & state tax laws preferred
